Deer Seasons in England & Wales

All UK deer are protected by legislation in England, Wales, and Scotland making it an offence to kill or take deer during the species closed season.

Open Seasons England & Wales:

RED DEER

Stags: 1st August - 30th April

Hinds: 1st November - 31st March

FALLOW DEER

Bucks: 1st August - 30th April

Does: 1st November - 31st March

SIKA DEER

Stags: 1st August - 30th April

Hinds: 1st November - 31st March

ROE DEER

Bucks: 1st April - 31st October

Does: 1st November - 31st March

CHINESE WATER DEER

Bucks: 1st November - 31st March

Does: 1st November - 31st March

MUNTJAC DEER

Bucks: No Closed Season

Deer Seasons in Scotland

The Scottish deer seasons have recently changed, from October 2023 any male deer (Red & Sika Stags, Roebuck, and Fallow Buck) may be shot year-round and no longer have a statutory closed season.
